Linda talks about the ABCs of collection and how collection is not just about engagement, it's about grace, elegance, intimacy and how to get mentally, emotionally and physically collected with your horse.

We have developed new ways to help horses to WANT to flex says Linda as she discusses incentive, the Fluid Rein, Swinging the Shoulder, the Suspension Rein, relaxation and balance.  You need to become so balanced your horse can't feel you.

INSPIRATION - Liberty Duet - Double the Fun! ( 35 mins) with Pat, River and Nova

During one of the Liberty & Horse Behavior courses held this summer at the Colorado Parelli Center, Pat surprised the students with a special ÒHorsenality demonstration with his Andalusian x Thoroughbred mares, River and Nova.

In this inspiring demo you'll get to see Pat play with these majestic grays at Liberty, with both horses together and then each horse separately, to help the students observe their similarities and differences.

KNOWLEDGE - Does That Horse Look Rideable?  (50 mins.) - Riding should be a beautiful thing between horse and human, not a wrestling match.

Linda helps Rej and his mare, Myst, with her "Cover-All fears" and demonstrates the importance of how to use psychology to play with your horse on the ground to prepare for a harmonious riding experience.

THE JOURNEY - A Giant Leap from Level 2 to Liberty & Horse Behavior with Yvonne and Escada (26 min.)  Yvonne and Escada's Parelli journey has been chronicled in the past seven issues of the Savvy Times magazine.  This video shows past and present video of their recent relationship breakthroughs after compiling video material for the latest Parelli home study release, Liberty & Horse Behavior.

BEHIND THE SCENES - 'What does it take to set up a USA Tour Event?' (2 min) with the Parelli Tour Team

If you've ever wondered what it takes to set up for a Parelli two-day tour event, it might be more than you think!  The real-life set up and tear-down time for this event was 11 hours but here you'll see it all fly by in just two minutes.

ATTITUDE/KNOWLEDGE - Control, confidence, Competence: (1hr.4 min.) with Linda Parelli and Allure.  Meet Linda's challenging Trakehner Warmblood, Allure!  Linda shows what it takes to have a Òsuccessful: session with this playful, curious character in the round corral, on a 22-foot Line, in a large open field on a 45-foot line, then saddling and riding.

You'll get to really see Allure's 'horsenality', how self-confident he is in himself, yet how unconfident he is as a learner.  "He challenges me non-stop. Really causing me to be a leader.  I have to play this great balancing act of being provocative and firm, yet playful and leave him with his dignity", says Linda.

This awesome and revealing demo was taped during the April 2006 Fluidity 1 - Freestyle Course at the Florida Parelli Center.

INSPIRATION - Parelli Games with Evanne Prater (16 min.)  Evanne has been playing with Parelli for almost a decade, and has Parelli Professional Star Ratings in Young Horses, Colt Starting, Foundation, Horsemanship and Instructing.

Last October, while helping prepare race horses in Kentucky, Evanne suffered trauma to the brain stem when a horse fell on her.  She was in a rehab hospital for three months - six weeks of which in a coma.  Three and a half months after her accident, Evanne was back on her horse.

In this session, Evanne plays with her Trakehner Thoroughbred, Thunder Heart, in the Parelli Games on Tour in Washington 2005 and Oregon 2006.  She is back on track to achieving her dream - playing with horses for a living.

IMAGINATION - Meet Liberty Bell ( 30 mins.) - Pat introduces us to the Parelli herd's gorgeous new arrival, Liberty Belle!

Three-day-old Belle (by Liberty Major out of Mango) was born on April 14, 2006 at the Parelli Center in Ocala, Florida.

In this session Pat, his son Caton and niece Amy, play with Belle and show how to introduce light exercise for the mare and obstacles to the foal to develop sensitivity and curiosity.

ATTITUDE/KNOWLEDGE “Texas Demo Horses” (2 hrs. 10 min.) with Pat, Linda, Tess & Logan, David & Chip Get ready for a riveting session of love, language and leadership in action with Pat, Linda and two demo horses in Fort Worth, Texas. Linda plays with Logan, a five-year-old Mustang gelding, and Pat with Chip, a five-year-old Grade QH gelding. Logan is perfect except…he invades your space, won't stop, ignores his rider, is hard to catch, bolts, bucks or shies, is needle shy and balks at trailer loading. Chip is perfect except…he is disrespectful, wants to do things his way, gets in your space, nips, and doesn't like trailer loading or being saddled. This session features a split screen format so you get to see every move Pat and Linda make—it's twice the savvy in one video!

IMAGINATION “Parelli Games & Puzzle Solving—The Slalom Puzzle” (12 min.) with Pat Parelli and Magic In this “how to” session, Pat demonstrates the steps for preparing your horse to play with his Slalom Puzzle from the Parelli Games. He shows how to isolate the steps and build the process to get your horse thinking and asking questions so it's all about communication and doesn't become a trick! ATTITUDE/KNOWLEDGE “Needle Shy Demonstration” (57 min.) with Pat Parelli, Jesse, Karen, Cash and Sage In this demonstration Pat helps Karen's mare, Sage, with her dramatic claustrophobia and fear of needles. While riding Cash, Pat plays the Seven Games with Sage to develop trust, leadership and expose Sage's deep fear of confinement. This demonstration is not intended to teach the techniques for dealing with this kind of problem. It is to expose just how deep and severe it can be in some horses plus show the Level of savvy required to address it safely for both horse and human. TECHNIQUES “Frustrating vs. Fascinating” (58 min.) with Linda Parelli and Nova When Linda's horse, Remmer, injured himself before a Parelli Tour event in Kentucky, Pat ‘loaned' her his Andalusian/TB mare, Nova. “Nova is the type of horse that feels a fly before it lands on her,” says Linda. Linda rides Nova and explains how she uses the Passenger Lesson to help Nova become softer—mentally and emotionally—teaching her to “fall in love with relaxation.” You'll see why and when Linda progresses from Passenger to Guider, plus excellent examples of how to mirror the horse while riding.

In this session, Smart Seven is almost eight months old and this is his first time in a pasture (without Scamp) with a new herd of geldings. Pat introduces Seven to the herd and plays the role of "big brother" to help Seven meet his new buddies in a supervised environment.

TECHNIQUES "Behavior Shaping for the Horse" (58 min.) with Linda Parelli and Valerie Turner
Taped during the 2005 Savvy Conference in Colorado, Linda coaches Valerie and her mare in a session about "reading the horse" while riding.

This session is about learning to respond appropriately and simply when something goes wrong; how to notice changes and adjust as you go along; discovering brace; and how to use sideways to relax and cause emotional change for the horse, creating a shift in his behavior. Says Linda, "Pat knows exactly what to do to help the horse's mental and emotional state, and that's what we need to be able to teach you to do."

A special new addition for Savvy Club Members, Pat talks about the "Parelli Games" and how he uses them to help students teach their horses to become puzzle solvers. ATTITUDE/KNOWLEDGE Smart Seven Part 13 (6 min.) with Pat Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven
Smart Seven is now seven months old and is wintering at the Parelli Center in Ocala Florida. In this session we see Pat's natural progression for weaning Seven and his mom, Scamp. Their first day is spent in separate pens with an adjoining panel, so it can be Scamp's idea for Seven to nurse. Pat explains the importance of the process being a transition for the foal as well as the mare.

TOOLS/TECHNIQUES "Horse Behavior and Liberty" (89 min.) at Savvy Conference 2005 with Linda Parelli.  At this demonstration during the 2005 Conference in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Linda plays with Replica, the daughter of Pat's challenging stallion, Casper. Replica is a very unconfident, right brain mare, needing much retreat and effective leadership. Linda demonstrates "mirroring" to create rapport and uses retreat rather than pressure to draw Replica's attention.

To show the opposite end of the confidence spectrum, Linda brings in her Dutch Warmblood, Remmer, a very confident, left brain, playful gelding. We learn how Linda uses provocative and imaginative play in the round corral to keep Remmer interested and asking questions. (Please note there is a small glitch approximately 13 minutes into this footage This is live footage of Savvy Conference and one of the cameras had an internal glitch. The DVD does not need to be replaced!)

In this amazing demonstration Pat rides his QH mare, Cash while playing at Liberty with his AdalusianxTB mare, Nova and QH stallion, Casper. ATTITUDE/KNOWLEDGE Smart Seven Part 10 with Pat Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven
Smart Seven is a little over two months old now, and Pat shows us how he would introduce a foal to his first experience with a halter and lead.

"This should be just a natural occurrence of things," says Pat. All the preparation we have seen from the day Smart Seven was born has been leading to this and everything else he will encounter as he grows. "You shouldn't have to break a horse in. It should just be another step in his life."

INSPIRATION "Live Coaching with Linda: Jacksonville, FL" with Linda Parelli, June and Micheline
In this session, Linda coaches June and Micheline with their horses, Moon and Flag. Moon is a seven-year-old Arabian with Impulsion difficulties, and Linda helps June with the Fluidity concepts of loose legs, no brace in the stirrups, Balance Point, matching the horse's energy, and mirroring at the walk and trot. "Riding is about balance, it's not about grip or strength."

Micheline's seven-year-old Rocky Mountain Horse, Flag, needs help with right brain behavior, and Linda gives Micheline On Line tasks to help build Flag's self-confidence, especially around applause with the audience. In the riding lesson, Flag's 'right brain persistence' invites Linda to mount up and demonstrate how extreme right brain behavior requires extreme savvy! "Every time his brain leaves I'm going to do something to get it back."

This is a highly inspirational session, and a great lesson in perseverance! Pat joins us at the end of the session with the burning question, "How good do YOU want to be with horses?"

Smart Seven Part 8 with Pat Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven Smart Seven is now 16 days old and has been moved up to Pat and Linda’s house so they can have more play time together! Seven gets his first scratch on the belly, and Pat uses two Carrot Sticks and strings to play Porcupine Games. Seven learns to lead by following a feel on the back of Zone 2. Pat shows how to use “baby blocks!” Seven meets the ‘plastic flag’ for the first time and gets curious when Pat lets him ‘follow the flag.’

You’ll see Pat playing the Seven Games with a new horse with his mare Magic as his legs! Magic helps Pat play the Seven Games with her own “Schwiegermutter looks” and Porcupine Games with her teeth! Pat plays with Scout, a 5 1/2-year-old QH Paint gelding who “fights the bit” and has never backed out of a trailer. INSPIRATION
“Kinder & Pferde” with the Savvy Kids from Stuttgart, Germany Get ready to be inspired... At the September 2004 Savvy Day in Germany, Pat and Linda received a wonderful surprise as they watched 12 young members of the Savvy Team (the youngest barely three years old!) play with their horses On Line, at Liberty, then riding FreeStyle bareback and bridleless!

Smart Seven Part 7 with Pat Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven Smart Seven is now 168 hours old, and Pat demonstrates how “prior and proper preparation” will help Seven be prepared for all the situations he may encounter in his life. Pat then uses Mom’s 12-foot Line for some “barbed wire training.” Then it’s time for “Fun With Foals!” Pat plays with Scamp on the 12 and 22-foot Lines with circles, change of direction, yo-yos, and sideways — all with Seven following at liberty!

Stephanie talks about our responsibilities as learners and the dignity of the student, not just the horse, when it comes to teaching and learning. “Seven Games, Tunica, MS” Part 2 with Linda and Pat Parelli, Sparkle and BJ Continued from Part 1 in the December 2004 DVD. Pat now plays Games 4-7 and trailer loading with Afrika, a six-year-old Hanoverian mare owned by Sparkle at the “Love, Language, Leadership” Tour stop in Tunica, Mississippi. Linda continues to play with seven-year-old BJ's barrel horse with trailer loading and Games 2 and 3 (Porcupine and Driving). Pat asks BJ to come into the arena and sit on a barrel to play the Yo-Yo and Circling Games with Afrika. On Day 2, watch BJ bridle his horse naturally and mount by himself for the first time!

Smart Seven Part 4 with Pat Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven
In this session, Smart Seven is now three-and-a-half days old and Pat continues to spend time on the most important thing – the relationship:
“When I show up, I want him to think, ‘Oh Boy!’”
Pat uses The Friendly Game#1 to help Smart Seven get used to Rhythmic Motion by swinging ropes around and above him. “There is not a better time in the world for a horse to learn than right now. When he sees that Mom doesn’t care, he knows he doesn’t need to care...” Pat now wants Smart Seven to start making sense of pressure – steady and rhythmic. Everything he does is to help develop skills which will enhance Seven’s talents. Pat also mimics the feel of a neck rein and cinch using a Savvy String. Pat is joined by son Caton and University student Jodie in this session.

“Seven Games, Tunica, MS” Part 1 with Linda and Pat Parelli, Sparkle and BJ
Pat plays the Seven Games with Afrika, a six-year-old Hannovarian mare owned by Sparkle at the “Love, Language, Leadership” Tour stop in Tunica, Mississippi. Sparkle explains that Afrika “Intimidates me, is pushy on the ground, spooky, disrespectful, doesn’t like crowds, doesn’t saddle or bridle well, cannot trail ride, has to arrive one hour early at a show to calm her down, okay in dressage arena...” Pat is also joined by seven-year-old BJ and his barrel horse who has issues with ducking out before the second barrel.

Smart Seven Part 3 with Pat Parelli, Caton Parelli, Scamp and Smart Seven In this session, Smart Seven is now 60 hours old and Pat talks about teaching the four most important things a horse can do: 1. Follow; 2. Stop and back up; 3. Yield the hindquarters; and 4. Yield the forehand. Pat plays with Smart Seven while riding Scamp and says he’d like Smart Seven to know Level 4 on the ground or better by the time he’s ready for his first ride. In the second session, “number-one-son” Caton Ryder Parelli joins Pat to ride Scamp and play with Smart Seven.

“Level 2 Liberty” with Linda Parelli Join Linda’s Level 2 class at the Pat Parelli Center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, for a session on the second of the Four Savvys: “Liberty.” Linda plays with a student horse that’s a little under-impulsive and “crabby!” You’ll discover the importance of lots of Friendly Game#1 for desensitization and relationship building, plus how Linda uses laziness to motivate!

IMAGINATION

“Linda’s first slide stop, Lyn’s first piaffe...”with Linda and Pat Parelli, and Lyn and Craig Johnson World Champion Reiner, Craig Johnson, surprised Linda at the 2004 Savvy Conference with a challenge to try her first-ever slide stop on one of his top stallions, Sugar Chic Olena. Not to be outdone, Pat calls Craig’s wife Lyn into the arena to try her first ever piaffe on his top mare, Magic!

INSPIRATION

“Karen Rohlf, Monte and River” Associate Parelli Professional, Karen Rohlf, presented with Monte (Lippizan gelding) and River (Andalusian x Thoroughbred mare) at the 2004 Savvy Conference. Karen demonstrates how she warms up her horses for a dressage session, plus how she takes the mystery out of collected maneuvers.
